This site is my way to share my views and general business and IT information with you about Microsoft, IT solutions for ISVs, technologists and businesses, large and small.
Did you know that your small business customers want Windows Vista

I know this has been discussed before and while I am on Paternity I am not authoring much in the way of content (not enough time), so simply adding things I am finding elsewhere, but this little gem was interesting.

A recent web survey that I think, but am not 100% sure about, was NOT commissioned by Microsoft found the following:

http://www.itbusinessedge.com/item/?ci=11414

  • Small shops (with fewer than 100 employees) who identified themselves as aggressive when it comes to platform upgrades were among the most avid projected Vista adopters, with 76 percent saying they would roll out within the first year of Vista release.
  • Of respondents who said they plan on delaying a Vista rollout, 69 percent said they would rely on their PC refresh cycle to drive the transition.
  • Overall, 46 percent of respondents said that new security features would be a factor in causing them to undertake a Vista rollout; the next most popular response was end of support for legacy Windows systems, at 28 percent.
  • Only three survey respondents said they don't use Microsoft operating systems at all.
  • Interest in Windows Vista was more acute among respondents from smaller companies, with 36 percent saying they are very interested in news about the upcoming platform rollout. Thirty-one percent of respondents from companies with 1,000 or more employees said they were very interested in Vista. But across the board, 77 percent of respondents said they are interested in Vista and are keeping at least moderately informed on the new OS.
  • As might be expected, organizations that describe themselves as taking an aggressive posture toward infrastructure upgrades were more likely to describe themselves as being very interested (55 percent for large shops, 73 percent for SMBs) in news about Vista. Similar responses from shops that typically wait a year or more or until they are simply forced to upgrade were 47 percent for large shops and 49 percent for SMBs.

This may all be interesting, but what can you do about it? Well, 1st off have a look at the blogs on this site that relate to Vista to get some good links etc (http://uksbsguy.com/vista). I would sign up to the RSS feeds from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/whatsnew/rssfeed.aspx?windowsvista_en-us as a minimum as well as the blogs on http://uksbsguy.com/blogs/doverton/linklist.aspx.

If you are a member of SBSC, attend the event on 5th July to find out what I am telling people and here me answer a number of questions - http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?EventID=118771191&EventCategory=4&culture=en-GB&CountryCode=GB
