Are you finding Outlook Web Access (OWA or e-mail from Remote Web Workplace) is showing errors or "image not found" red crosses when accessed from Vista? Another catch by Kevin at Neoblog

I'm beginning to think I need a subscription from Neoblog to appear higher in my list.  I have not tested this, so let me know if there are any issues, but here is the information he has posted.

OWA and Vista

Posted on February 14th, 2007 by Kevin Higerty

If you use Outlook Web Access and have recently upgraded to Vista you will find that you can’t reply or do any action on an email, typically the edit area shows a ‘image not found’ red x in the corner.

This is because Windows Vista no longer includes support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook Web Access, you need to apply a hotfix to Exchange.

This is covered by the official SBS / Vista compatability instructions, and the patch (911829) was out quite a while before that; if you're still missing patches 3 months after release I think there is soemthing more amiss with your system.

Lee,

I understand where you are coming from and I obviously think people should patch for these things.  However not everyone who hits this problem will be running SBS and either way some businesses might hit this with users running Vista at home rather than the business itself deploying Vista.

Finally, something I have learnt about search engines is that it never hurts to have some of the issues spelt out clearly in the title.

ttfn and thanks for your keen eyes on my blog - you have spotted a thing or two for me yet.

This exact problem is happening to me- I can't send/respond/edit emails when logged onto OWA. How do I apply a hotfix please? Thanks very much!

Had this same problem.  Try this:

Once you log into OWA, on the left side at the bottom there should be an "Options" button.  Click on it.  Scroll down to the "E-mail Security" section and click the "Download" button.  That did the trick for me.

Good luck.

Amazing - been looking around for a solution to the OWA problem and you appear to be the only person in the world who has figured this out. Thanks for the assist.

My laptop died a couple of days ago and I needed another for work next week. The only quick option was with Vista - at Dell you can still get it loaded with XP Pro but it takes a few days.

The introduction of Vista will have a significant impact on work productivity. People around the world are going to have to stop and figure out how to do those things they have been doing for years.

Oh the power...............

I have SBS 2003 R2 and when i goto Microsoft Update it shows Exchange Patches, but doesnt list any as I have installed them all.

But when I do a properties on exchange it shows SP1.

Q. DO i need then to patch exchange seperately to SBS (you shouldnt need to  )

Q. Why doesnt MS update pick them up ?

It seems odd to patch a new install (FULLY PATCHED) with a 2 year old patch and yet also seems odd microsoft SBS team wouldnt update the Exchange properties with SBS patches ?

Grants fix worked for me but I worry if my SBS is now not as patched as it should be.

Hi

I followed the instructions above for downlading the security patch so that I don't get a red cross in the reply box.  However after I did that , whils the reply to box is now there, IE 7 keeps crashing when I try to send or close the new message window.  Can you help?

Thanks

I am having the same problem as Muhammad... I resolved the problem of not being able to reply by just downloading the patch fright from the Options menu in OWA but now IE7 crashes each time I reply to someone. :(
